Via a virtual press conference on Thursday, June 25th, The Government of Belize announced that Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) will reopen on August, 15th, 2020 to international travelers. Prime Minister Dean Barrow stated that after much consideration with the Ministry of Health, they decided to make this decision of reopening.
PGIA closed in mid-march due to the outbreak of COVID-19. To date, Belize has recorded a total of 23 cases of COVID-1 and 2 deaths. The country’s success towards this virus comes after its prompt action of closing all borders and implementing strict quarantine measures.
The Philip Goldson International Airport is the official international airport in the country, located in Ladyville, Belize District which is just a 10-minute drive outside Belize City.
